Darren Harris joins the Downtown Development District (DDD) as the Director of Economic Development. Prior to joining the DDD, Darren, a Chicago native, served with the city of Las Vegas for over 15 years as both a City Planner and Senior Economic Development Specialist where he lead successful initiatives, managed the City’s Workforce Training Center, performed grant writing, oversaw small business incubator center/programs in West Las Vegas, and spearheaded efforts with City management on sustainability projects. Darren also leveraged his geographical informational system background (GIS) and certification to assist with the redevelopment of Downtown Las Vegas by providing mapping and analysis for business prospects, while also serving as the facilitator of Downtown Coordination Team meetings.
Darren got his start in Economic Development in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as a Business Development Specialist leading neighborhood strategic initiatives aimed at reducing social determinants of health and increasing visibility of residents/stakeholders and growth of new and existing businesses.
Darren’s educational accolades consist of a Certificate in GIS, a bachelor’s degree in Urban Affairs from Cleveland State University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
To create a healthy work-life balance, Darren enjoys traveling, working out, and spending time with his 6’5” son: a teacher and coach in Cleveland, Ohio.
