As part of its continued effort to provide enhanced public safety services in keeping Downtown safe, the DDD, along with Downtown property owners and managers, has partnered with the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation in the SafeCam Platinum program, providing 36 security cameras at key locations in Downtown New Orleans, which are linked to the City of New Orleans Real-Time Crime Center.

“The DDD is proud of our longtime partnership with the NOPD in advancing public safety Downtown and with NOPJF in creating a safer New Orleans,” said DDD President & CEO Kurt Weigle. “I would also like to thank our Downtown property owners and managers, whose support and partnerships help us ensure that Downtown continues to be one of the most appealing and sought-after destinations for residents, workers, visitors and investors.”

SafeCam Platinum is an exciting new program that allows residents and businesses to install public-facing security cameras and share the footage directly with the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC). Managed by the NOPJF, it is a companion initiative to the existing SafeCam NOLA program, which is the official private security camera registry of the NOPD. It allows citizens to register their camera location with the police. The DDD has invested in the SafeCam program since 2016.

“The RTCC plays an important role in making the NOPD more efficient and more effective, and our officers are utilizing relevant footage provided to us from private-sector integrated cameras on a regular basis throughout the City, especially in the Downtown area,” said NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson. “We applaud the DDD for their generous support of SafeCam Platinum through their purchase of SafeCam cameras as well as the Downtown businesses that have been early adopters of this program.”

“For nearly 25 years, the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation has implemented innovative initiatives that support public safety and the New Orleans Police Department,” said NOPJF President & CEO Melanie Talia. “We are proud of our latest endeavor, SafeCam Platinum. Our SafeCam Platinum partnership with the Downtown Development District is a great example of the positive impact that a private-public community partnership can have on public safety.”

Through the partnership 36 cameras at 10 locations have been installed and integrated with the RTCC:

The DDD provides 24/7 private patrol and police details for Downtown stakeholders as part of its enhanced public safety program. Approximately 30 officers provide 400 hours per week in enhanced police coverage. In addition, the DDD deploys Public Safety Rangers, a non-commissioned force of safety professionals. Rangers’ services include surveying the district for suspicious behavior or activities, providing homeless outreach, and offering SafeWalks, a free service provided to safely escort residents, workers and visitors to their Downtown destination.
