8/7/24 Update
GNO, Inc. Launches Website to Inform Residents of Road Closures
Greater New Orleans, Inc. is excited to announce the launch of nolastreets.info, a new website to keep residents informed about major road closures and infrastructure updates within the New Orleans “Entertainment District” as part of preparations for Super Bowl LIX in February 2025. The goal is to provide a quick and easy way for residents to see which roads are currently closed or partially closed at any given time.
8/5/24 Update
Poydras (Claiborne to Convention Center Blvd)
The City of New Orleans announced that starting Monday, Aug. 5 at 7PM, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC will begin nighttime construction on Poydras Street, stretching from Convention Center Boulevard to S. Claiborne Avenue. The work will occur between 7PM and 5AM each night to minimize daytime traffic disruptions and expedite project completion, continuing through October 2024. This nighttime work is being completed in conjunction with the ongoing daytime work on Poydras Street.
During night closures, crews will facilitate roadway patching work, with two lanes of traffic remaining open at all times. Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
What to Expect During Construction:
- Noise Levels: The work involves milling and overlaying the road surface, producing noise levels similar to heavy trucks passing by. While there will be some noise from machinery and trucks, it will be minimal and not sustained in one area for long.
- Visual Impact: Construction lights, essential for safety, will be directed downward to minimize light pollution and disturbance to nearby residents.
- Duration and Timing: The work will progress quickly, limiting disturbances in any specific area.
- Daytime Activities: More intensive tasks, like jackhammering, will be scheduled during the day to minimize nighttime disruptions. All work cannot be performed at night without causing major disturbances to residents and visitors; therefore, performing work at night where possible will minimize impacts and expedite the project timeline.
Daytime work on Poydras between Convention Center Boulevard to S. Claiborne Avenue will continue as scheduled, including roadway removal and replacement, re-striping, sidewalk repairs, installation of American with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps, and driveway apron repairs.
