TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lakebound Road Closure on N. Rampart Street from Canal Street to Iberville Street

UPDATE: The City of New Orleans announces that crews have encountered unexpected delays during the roadway restoration on North Rampart Street. As a result, the lakebound traffic closure between Canal Street and Iberville Street will now remain in effect until Nov. 11. This additional time will allow crews to effectively form and pour the roadway as part of the Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project.

The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close lakebound traffic on North Rampart Street between Canal Street and Iberville Street for approximately one week. This closure is necessary to accommodate roadway restoration as part of the Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project.

During the closure, vehicular traffic will be rerouted to Basin Street. The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus service will replace streetcar service on the 46-Rampart-Loyola line during this time. See the attached map for detour details.

Safety remains the City’s top priority. Signage and traffic control measures, including barrels and fencing, will be in place to guide both drivers and pedestrians safely.

The Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation Project includes waterline and drainage installations, as well as pavement and sidewalk restoration at various locations along Iberville, Burgundy, Canal, and North Rampart Streets. In general, crews are working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekend work as needed. The entire project is expected to be completed by January 2025, weather permitting.
