TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Full Closure on Julia Street at Baronne Street

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans announced that starting today, Oct. 16, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Hard Rock Construction LLC, will fully close Julia Street at the Baronne Street intersection for drainage upgrades and street restoration. This closure will remain in place until 5 p.m. Baronne Street will be reduced to one lane, with traffic allowed to turn right onto Julia Street from Baronne Street. Julia Street traffic will be detoured to Carondelet Street, continue onto Lafayette Street, and reconnect to Baronne Street before accessing Julia Street again.

Signage and traffic control measures will be in place to help drivers and pedestrians navigate the detour safely. Crews are connecting a new drainage pipe to the box culvert and installing two drainage structures at the Julia and Baronne Street intersection. Concrete patching and the installation of remaining ADA-compliant ramps at various intersections along Julia Street are also underway.

This work is part of the ongoing Julia Street Improvements Project (Convention Center Boulevard to Loyola Avenue), which includes:

  • Roadway removal and replacement
  • Re-striping
  • Sidewalk repairs
  • Installation of ADA-compliant ramps
  • Driveway apron repairs

All work, except for striping, is expected to be completed by October 2024, weather permitting. Permanent striping on Poydras, Julia, and Girod Streets will be completed once all other work is finished.
