Senator Edwin Murray

Edwin R. Murray currently serves as Vice Chancellor of Community & Multicultural Affairs, Campus Police, Medical Malpractice, and Risk Management for LSU Health Science Center.  With over 30 years of experience in delivering operational solutions that create immediate impact and contribute to long-term success, he is a well-respected leader with expertise across multiple industries, including higher education, K12 education, and healthcare.

Senator Murray is also a proven leader in governmental service, community and governmental affairs, institutional security, legal affairs, and has an extensive background in state ethics and budgeting.  Other areas of expertise include strategic business planning, operations management, human resource management, contract development and negotiations, media relationship management, continuous process improvement, organization development, team building, and leadership.

Senator Murray served in the Louisiana State Senate representing District 4 from 2005-2016, where his committee assignments included Finance, Joint Legislative Committee on Budget, Revenue and Fiscal Affairs, State Bond Commission, Senate Executive Committee, Judiciary A, Legislative Audit Advisory Council, Senate and Governmental Affairs, Homeland Security, Vocational and Technical Education, Hurricane Recovery, and Women and Children.

He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992-2004, representing District 96, where he worked on the following committees: Legislative Audit Advisory Council (Chairman), Appropriations, Joint Legislative Committee on Budget, State Bond Commission, House Executive Committee, House and Governmental Affairs, Homeland Security, and Labor and Industry.

Prior to that and since then, Senator Murray has practiced general civil law at Edwin R. Murray & Associates, and Murray, Darnell & Associates, LLC, where his practice included litigation, personal injury, domestic relations, successions, business and commercial litigation, contract review, negotiating and drafting, corporate governance, and governmental affairs.

Senator Murray received a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law, where he also received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, and was a Fellow at the Loyola Institute of Politics.  He is a Retired Captain of the Army’s Military Police Corps.

Senator Murray has received numerous awards and honors, including Who’s Who in American Politics 19th Edition, Legislator of the Year, 1999, 1998, and 1997, Dean’s Honor List, Two Year Scholarship Recipient; Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Friends of the Parishes, and City of New Orleans Floor Leader.

Professional organization affiliations include the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the National Conference of Insurance Legislators, the National Conference of State Legislators, and the National Legislative Staff & Security Association.

Senator Murray is involved in the following community organizations: American Legion Post 395, NAACP, Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, JUGS Social Club, Eureka Consistory No. 7, Friends of City Park, Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, Edward Wisner Trust Management Board and Total Community Action (TCA).
