New Streetcar Tracks at Canal and Rampart
Successful testing of streetcar service on the newly installed Half Grand Union track at the intersection of Canal Street and Rampart Street has allowed streetcars to return to Downtown. Service was interrupted during the 30-day shutdown of the intersection while the special track work was installed as part of the North Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue Streetcar Project.
The Loyola-UPT and Canal lines, as well as the portion of the St. Charles line from Erato Street to Canal Street, resumed Thursday morning. Streetcars will deliver and pick up passengers at the regular streetcar stops, and replacement bus service in those corridors have been discontinued.
