Christina Crews was born and raised in San Diego, California on the border of Tijuana, Mexico. Always seeking culturally rich experiences that compared to her upbringing, she visited New Orleans for the first time in 2012 and immediately fell in love. After many years of visiting, Christina finally left home and made the move to New Orleans in 2023.
Christina has degrees in sociology, social work, and psychology. She has worked with various populations within the social services field and even owned and operated a military contracted Child Development Home for ten years. Since arriving in New Orleans, she has primarily worked in the homeless shelter environment until being hired as a Street Outreach Case Manager for the Downtown Development District, with Traveler’s Aid of New Orleans.
As the world entered a global crisis in 2020, Christina saw a rapidly growing homeless population all around her. She, along with many others watching the inhumanity, knew they needed to try to fill in the gaps that nobody else was. This was the beginning of her boots-on-ground efforts in homeless outreach, and she has not stopped since. Now, being employed to do the work she loves, she can dedicate herself fully to the community and continue to practice radical empathy each day.
