In 2019, Downtown Development District of the City of New Orleans officially activated the greenspace at 730 Baronne Street as Downtown New Orleans’ “Legacy Park.”
The Legacy Park Project was made possible by in partnership with International High School New Orleans, NOLA Public Schools, American Society of Landscape Architects, Groundwork New Orleans, generous sponsors, and Downtown businesses and residents. It transformed a portion of the former IHSNO parking lot into a shared greenspace serving both the students and the surrounding community.
Long term activation of the space provides new and exciting opportunities for community led programming Downtown, training in storm water management, and opportunity for outdoor enjoyment and play. Ultimately, the small but mighty Legacy Park provides a beautiful outdoor space that improves the quality of life for the residents and businesses of the DDD.
