Greenspaces

Crown Park

In July of 2022, Downtown Development District of the City of New Orleans dedicated the grassy space at 801 Girod Street as “Crown Park” while unveiling artist Journey Allen’s mural, “Sacred Crowns: The Crown Act Mural,” against its walls. The mural, commissioned by Arts Council New OrleansDove, and Joy Collective, commemorates the passing of the CROWN Act, a significant legislative step in the fight against hair-based discrimination in schools and workplaces.

Now, this powerful artwork has been further accentuated by the creation and development of an attractive surrounding greenspace.

The reimagination of Crown Park was made possible through generous sponsorship from State Senator Royce Duplessis, innovative landscape design by Dana Brown & Associates, and careful installation by Thrive New Orleans. Thanks to their support, collaboration, and assistance, this once-bare space now stands as a Native Plant Certified Habitat in the heart of the Crescent City.

Enjoy the native plants, beautiful artwork, and outdoor seating at this urban oasis, brought to you by DDD.
