Tuesday, November 22 | Choir Begins at 4:30pm | We will “Flip the Switch” and turn on the lights at 5:30pm

The Downtown Development District along with Santa, city officials and downtown business leaders invite everyone to join us at Canal Place as we officially kick off the holiday season with the lighting of Canal Street!

Santa, Mrs. Clause, Elves and Sugar Plums will be on hand to help light up the Christmas Tree on Spanish Plaza!  Once the tree is lit all the holiday dignitaries will be available for photos in front of the Riverwalk Christmas Tree at the photobooth.  Be sure to stop by and get your keepsake holiday photo at this free, family friendly event.

 

 


Holliday Ribbon Cutting Reception at The Ritz-Carlton

The Ritz-Carlton gets their festivities started with an unveiling of their elaborate holiday decorations with a reception in their lobby.  Guests are invited to stop by, enjoy holiday refreshments and appearances by Papa Noel and the Victory Belles.  Returning this year will be the crowd favorite gingerbread streetcar!

The 49th Annual Bayou Classic Football game between Southern and Grambling State is being held November 26 in the Caesars Superdome. Multiple events will precede the game including A Business Showcase, Battle of the Bands, Flag Football Game, Parade, Fan Festival and more! This holiday parade will be a first-of-its-kind for New Orleans, with custom-design holiday-themed floats that include animatronic props, intelligent lighting systems, special effects and audio systems.  The parade will also feature several high-flying helium balloons for the first time in New Orleans and will also include the beloved marching groups and bands the citizens of New Orleans have come to love – all in the holiday spirit.  The parade rolls at 11 AM and will end with a holiday concert and village experience at Lafayette Square.

The Creoles, some of the city’s earliest inhabitants, celebrated the start of Christmas in the early 1800s, with a big family meal when they returned home from midnight mass. Today dozens of New Orleans restaurants offer Reveillon Dinners with menus inspired by the Creole families who began the tradition. Participating restaurants have added their own twists to their menus, featuring their house specialties and examples of their culinary creativity.

Bring the whole family for holiday fun at Canal Place’s annual SELFIES WITH SANTA event! Begin your day of free, festive fun with a trip north to visit Canal Place’s stylish Santa. Santa Claus will don a sophisticated twist on his traditional red suit with a red and green plaid coat, ready to pose for photos and find out each child’s Christmas wish from 11 AM – 3 PM. Santa’s elves will provide cookies for your hungry holiday helpers. The magical surprises continue as Calliope Puppets present a special holiday-themed puppet show full of familiar family stories with a festive twist. Children ages 3 to 10 will enjoy these lively, interactive presentations at 11:00 AM and 12:15 PM.

Running of the Santas Bar Crawl

Running of the Santas, the annual pilgrimage of costumed revelers through the streets of the city’s Warehouse District, returns Saturday, December 10. At 6:00pm, the Santas will “RUN” from the “South Pole- Mannings” to the “North Pole – Generations Hall” (only a few blocks).   The “Runners” will assemble on Lafayette Street at the corner of South Peters.  Costume contest at 8:00pm!  A portion of the proceeds benefits “That Others May Live” Foundation.

Arts Council New Orleans’ LUNA Fête 2022, presented by the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and New Orleans & Company is LUNA Fête’s ninth edition.  This year will celebrate New Orleans’ history of costumes and craftsmanship and is FREE and open to the public. Nightly from 6pm – 10pm December 15 – 18th along the newly created New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Pedestrian Park on Convention Center Blvd from Julia Street to Henderson Avenue, you can visit the festival of light, art, and technology!
