Ron had been a DDD Board of Commissioner since 2007
Tuesday, Ron Gardner’s wife Cynthia Gardner and sister Julie Billips joined the DDD Board of Commissioners and staff in dedicating the DDD Boardroom to his memory. The boardroom is located on the 39th floor of the 201 St. Charles building in the CBD.
“The commissioners of the DDD saw Ron not only as a colleague, but as a mentor and friend,” said Allison Tiller, DDD Board Chair. “His presence will continue to be greatly missed.”
Ron served on the board from 2007 until his death in 2015. He chaired the Board from 2010 to 2011. Under his chairmanship the DDD went through a successful rebranding, attracting to Downtown professionals and entrepreneurs in biosciences, digital media, and arts-based businesses. Also, Ron played a critical role in the DDD’s successful effort to retain the University Medical Center and Veterans Administration teaching hospitals in New Orleans.
“Ron Gardner was respected everywhere he went in New Orleans and beyond, because he was a man of extraordinary substance,” said DDD President & CEO Kurt Weigle. “I learned from him more than I can possibly recall, but his wisdom influences every action we take at the DDD. This is just one part of his immense legacy.”
Born and educated in New Orleans, Ron dedicated his life and skills to public service; and, although he passed away on September 22, 2015, his legacy lives on through his many works for all to enjoy.
