The Downtown Development District of New Orleans (DDD) is seeking a bold and imaginative Marketing and Communications Manager to lead its marketing initiatives and elevate the Downtown New Orleans brand. Under the direction of the Chief Economic Development Officer, this position will manage traditional and digital marketing strategies, produce a weekly digital newsletter, oversee social media, support high-profile events, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships for the organization.
About the DDD
DDD was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1974 as the nation’s first assessment-based business improvement district (BID) to provide enhanced services in economic development, cleaning, and safety for Downtown New Orleans. The DDD services the area bounded by Iberville Street, the Pontchartrain Expressway, Claiborne Avenue and the Mississippi River. The DDD is governed by an 11-member Board of Commissioners who represent a cross section of the diverse Downtown community. Appointed by local elected officials, our commissioners help guide the policies and programs of the DDD.

Essential Functions
Reporting to the Chief Economic Development Officer, the Marketing & Communications Manager is a marketing and communications generalist focused on results-driven marketing. The position’s day-to-day functions include both marketing for the organization as an entity and Downtown New Orleans as a brand.
The Marketing & Communications Manager manages the day-to-day operations of DDD’s Marketing & Communications functions and serves as the point person for the organization’s traditional and digital marketing initiatives. Day-to-day operations include production of a weekly digital newsletter and associated social media posts on various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, graphic creation for use in the newsletter and social media posts, regular updates to the website with relevant information, and support for production of DDD events like the Downtown NOLA Awards, Lighting of Canal Street, and National Night Out Against Crime. Regular functions may also include management of special projects in collaboration with colleagues, consultants, and other departments such as brand development efforts, media campaigns, and statistical surveys.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Marketing & Communications Manager’s primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day operations of all marketing and communications duties including, but not limited to:
- Advertising and design initiatives such as production of newsletters, flyers, brochures, and print advertising.
- Public relations initiatives such as coordinating press conferences, creating talking points, and writing press releases.
- Special event coordination and production such as the Annual Luncheon, Lighting of Canal Street, Night Out Against Crime, webinars, networking functions, as well as support for events the organization may sponsor, such as the annual Holiday Parade, Go Fourth on the River, White Linen Night, Luna Fete, etc.
- Generation of sponsor support for annual events, where applicable.
- Marketing research initiatives, working with research firms in quantitative and qualitative marketing research.
- Supporting the organization’s outreach efforts to maintain excellent relationships with Downtown stakeholders.
- Budget management, ensuring initiatives meet budget expectations and compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures, such as adhering to purchasing guidelines, generating timely purchase orders, and submitting invoices promptly.
Secondarily, the Manager is responsible for the organization’s digital marketing efforts, including:
- Curating engaging social media content, utilizing an analytics-based approach.
- Managing the organization’s social media content calendar using Sprout Social.
- Managing the organization’s paid social media initiatives.
- Managing the organization’s website, managing content via WordPress and development with the organization’s web development and maintenance consultant.
Skills & Experience
- Experience working in government or non-profit sectors or similar highly regulated industries with an emphasis on marketing & communication activities.
- Demonstrated relationship and management experience in a small and mid-sized enterprise.
- Direct experience in a multi-functional team.
- Proven ability to identify, target, and reach multiple audience segments using a variety of tools.
- Experience planning and executing public events, including media events.
- Ability to establish and maintain credibility and trustworthiness.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Graphic and visual design.
- Website development and maintenance.
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience, having worked in all facets of the marketing discipline.
- Knowledge of current trends in social media and digital marketing, more generally.
- Functional knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
- Passion for Downtown New Orleans.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports, but manages multiple external relationships, including a third-party marketing firm.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time, exempt position on-site at the organization’s offices at 201 St. Charles Avenue, Suite 3912, New Orleans, LA 70170.
The DDD maintains a business professional dress code, with business formal attire required as necessary.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand, given the organization’s charge to support Downtown activities.
Physical Demands
This position supports various Downtown Development District programs, including outdoor events.
Regular use of arms, hands, and fingers in various duties, including a computer keyboard, telephone, and copier.
The ability to perform the job function successfully requires vision levels to include close, distance, and peripheral vision.
The ability to traverse uneven terrain and carry objects up to 30lbs. is required.
The physical demands described here must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
