DDD Catalogs More Than 100 Works of Public Art in Downtown New Orleans
New resource makes it easier for residents, workers, and visitors to discover public art throughout Downtown New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — The Downtown Development District (DDD) has created a new interactive map cataloging approximately 116 works of public art throughout Downtown New Orleans, from murals and sculptures to installations and other works integrated into the district’s streetscape.
The map represents the first comprehensive effort to bring Downtown’s public art together in one centralized resource. By documenting the artwork across the district, DDD is making it easier for residents, workers, and visitors to discover pieces they may pass every day, explore new works, and learn more about the artists and stories behind them.
“As stewards of Downtown New Orleans, part of DDD’s role is helping showcase the places, people and creative work that give the district its character,” said Seth Knudsen, President and CEO of the Downtown Development District. “Well-maintained and engaging public spaces invite people to spend more time in the district, add character to the streetscape and contribute to a sense of pride in Downtown.”
DDD sees public art as an important part of Downtown’s identity and its broader efforts to create a district that is welcoming, active, and engaging. The map provides a new way to experience the district while recognizing the artists, property owners, organizations, and others whose work contributes to Downtown’s creative landscape.
