DDD RECOGNIZES 50th ANNIVERSAY AT LA STATE LEGISLATURE

2025 marks a significant milestone for the Downtown Development District of the City of New Orleans: its 50th anniversary.

Established in 1974 by the Louisiana Legislature, DDD was the nation’s first assessment-based business improvement district (BID), created to provide enhanced services in economic development, cleaning, and safety within the Downtown New Orleans area.

On Tuesday, May 27, DDD staff and its esteemed Board of Commissioners traveled to Baton Rouge to recognize this pivotal milestone alongside the Legislature, which passed Resolution 72 to commend the organization for its 50 years of contribution to New Orleans’ development. DDD express its gratitude to Senator’s Royce Duplessis, Jimmy Harris, Joe Bouie, Gary Carter, and President Cameron Henry for the commendation.

As part of this celebration, the Louisiana House of Representatives also designated May 27, 2025, as “DDD Day at the Capitol,” honoring the BID’s enduring impact on the Downtown community. We extend our appreciation to state Rep. Alonzo Knox, along with Orleans Representatives Shaun Mena and Jason Hughes, for organizing and executing this meaningful recognition.

Downtown Development District is proud to enter its 50th year of serving, bettering, and advocating on behalf of Downtown New Orleans. This milestone anniversary serves as a testament to our organization’s ongoing commitment to building a brighter future for our one-of-a-kind neighborhood.
