The Sazerac cocktail has an honored place in New Orleans drinking culture. Soon it will have its own museum and visitor attraction in the Central Business District.
The Sazerac Co., the New Orleans-based distiller and liquor company, announced plans Thursday to create a museum at Canal and Magazine streets dedicated to the Sazerac and many other facets of local cocktail history. It will have a gift shop and will also house offices for the company’s local staff.
The company purchased a pair of historic but long-vacant properties for the project. Work is slated to begin in the coming months, with an opening expected in late 2018. The two buildings comprise some 50,000 square feet, and while plans are still taking shape, the museum will likely cover two floors.
