The Downtown Development District, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, officially launched DOWNTOWN PROUD! – a public awareness campaign. Throughout Downtown New Orleans signs will be displayed on green parking meter kiosks encouraging the public to enhance the quality of life Downtown through their actions
“Downtown continues to flourish with the influx of new businesses and residents,” said Kurt Weigle, president and CEO of the DDD. The Downtown Proud! campaign is our effort to continually improve the quality of life for our stakeholders by encouraging, inspiring and promoting positive behavior by our Downtown visitors, residents, employees and businesses. We would like to thank the City for its partnership in this effort.”
Earlier this year, the DDD started providing Downtown Proud! quality of life tips through its weekly e-newsletter, What’s Up Downtown as well as through Facebook and Twitter. Messages include:
- Curb your dog
- Do not ride your bike on the sidewalk. Walk it!
- Report aggressive panhandling
- Walk your butt to the can
In addition to the signage, the DDD is enlisting the help of key Downtown stakeholders, including employers, property managers and business owners, to educate the public on simple ways to improve our quality of life.
“Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a great Downtown experience consistent with the city code. The DDD’s enhanced police detail has been instructed to issue citations to those who do not comply with these provisions, so it is important that we educate everyone about what the law requires so that everyone can play his or her part in making Downtown New Orleans clean, safe and beautiful,” said Weigle.
