Margaret Tolbert Drawn Underwater is a selection of paintings from the freshwater springs of Florida. Her works are a combination of an initial impression of light and color while at the springs and a memory of the surface configuration of the colors of the water’s lens painted at her studio. The lens of the water’s surface is most apparent in the clearest and brilliant water, at the immediate outpouring of the springs from the caverns of the aquifer. When the breeze blows, the water, like a cracked lens, reveals the fractured prisms of the water’s surface.
